On A Warm Summer Night Down Under
Artist
Genevieve Esson
Medium
Painting - Acrylic And Graphite And Color Pencil On Board
Description
I did this piece in the early 1990's. I used to go on photoshoots on Washington Ave. in St. Louis. There was a lot of interesting architecture and inspiration at the time. I drew the photographs in this artwork with graphite, used a combination of color pencil and acrylic mediums to this piece. I wanted to convey the flow of time in an abstract sense along with mankinds impact on the environment. The tall wonky looking bird creature is inspired by the green and yellow parakeets I had at the time. I listened to their chatter and happy sounds incessantly, along with music and loving the aboriginal style of Australian artwork, thus the kangaroos dancing amongst the polka dots throughout the piece. It is kind of like a dream. The couple walking at the top of the piece is followed by floating items of their conversation and everyday life. Just a Day on A Warm Summer Night Down Under in storyboard land.
